What Is the Igloo Building Activity?
In this engaging activity, teams are given a flat-pack kit with tools and lightweight materials to construct a life-sized or scaled-down model igloo. The goal? Complete the build within the allotted time, using precise planning, clear communication, and group coordination.
But it’s not just about building—it’s about how teams organize themselves, solve design problems, and make critical decisions in a high-pressure environment.
This igloo team challenge simulates construction-style problem-solving and encourages teams to think logically, creatively, and collaboratively.
How it works?
Briefing & Team Formation
Participants are split into teams and briefed on the objective, materials, rules, and time limit.
Planning & Strategy
Teams discuss the best way to approach the structure, allocate roles, and determine build phases. Design thinking and delegation are essential.
Construction Phase
Using the provided materials, teams begin building their igloo. They must measure, align, and support the structure as it grows—maintaining stability and aesthetics under time pressure.
Time’s Up & Judging
When the timer runs out, facilitators assess each structure based on creativity, teamwork, stability, and overall design. The team with the best outcome is celebrated!
Debrief & Reflection
Teams reflect on what went well, what could be improved, and how they applied teamwork and problem-solving skills in real time.
